Israt Habib, 22, from Birmingham, United Kingdom was arrested and charged with importing drugs into Sydney, Australia after the cruise ship she was a passenger aboard sailed from New Caledonia to Sydney Australia with cocaine in her luggage.
The cruise ship she was cruising aboard was Oceania Cruises' Oceania Marina, which arrived at Sydney on February 23, 2014.
Habib was chosen for baggage examination by custom agents. Her bag triggered an alert for cocaine when a drug dog was brought to her luggage. She was charged with smuggling 1. 5 litres of liquid cocaine inside the liquid of a lava lamp which was discovered when she was searched by customs officers at the White Bay Cruise Terminal in Sydney.
Ishrat Habib faces a potential sentence of 25 years in prison and or a fine of up to $850,000 if convicted. She is due back in The Central Criminal Court on April 23, 2014.
