Shshchuk Igor And Shumouyah Ruslan Cruise Ship Crew Members Arrested With Cocaine Carnival Destiny - March 9, 2007

Two men described as passengers and as crew, were arrested in Antigua when they disembarked in the port of call of St. John's.

They were arrested after being found to have cannabis. The men are said to be residents of the Ukraine.

Shshchuk Igor, 26, and 28-year-old Shumouyah Ruslan are being held in jail pending their trial.

The amount of the drug is unknown at this time.


UPDATE: March 19, 2007
New reports say the two men from the Ukraine have been released from jail. The two men are now identified as crew members of the Carnival Destiny.

Shshchuk Igor, 26, and 28-year-old Shumouyah Ruslan both appeared in the St. John’s Magistrates Court.

The magistrate put the charge to Igor, who pleaded guilty to possession of three grams of cocaine. However, no charge was put to Ruslan, who does not understand any English.

The two men went back aboard the Carnival Destiny, which was in port at the time of their release.
